Busy, Busy, Busy!

Somehow, a couple of months have just gotten away from me completely.  I've been very busy with events and interviews about Somebody Up There Hates You.  It's been great fun--a little hectic but exciting.

Here are links to some of my favorite interviews:

Great Review of CORPOREALITY and Countdown to SOMEBODY UP THERE HATES YOU

Colorado Review has published a wonderful review of my story collection, Corporeality.   I thank the author of the review, Amanda Moger Rettig, for her careful and insightful reading of the stories.  Here's just a taste of what she's written:  "With deceptive quietness, Hollis Seamon's second collection of stories, Corporeality, offers a penetrating look at ten sets of lives.  These lives are stunningly beautiful, despite or--in Seamon's hands--because they are so ordinary."  Read the rest of the review at

SLJ Interview on SOMEBODY UP THERE HATES YOU

School Library Journal has just published an interview with me about my forthcoming YA novel, SOMEBODY UP THERE HATES YOU.  Dodie Ownes asked smart, insightful questions about the novel, its characters, and the process of writing it.  It was a real pleasure to think about and respond to her questions.  The interview can be found at http://www.slj.com/2013/07/books-media/author-interview/the-debut-hollis-seamon-somebody-up-there-hates-you/  And, on top of that,

Upcoming readings in July

Is it July already??  I guess so--summers always fly by.  And in July, I'm giving a couple of readings:

On July 15, I'll be reading at the Women's Writing Retreat in Pyramid Lake in Paradox NY, a gorgeous spot in the Adirondack mountains.  I'm looking forward to seeing my old friends there, especially my Bates College roommate, Ellie O'Leary.  This reading is only open to folks attending the retreat.

Shelf-Awareness Issue on Algonquin Young Readers

Yesterday, Shelf Awareness published an issue dedicated to the new line of books coming out this fall from Algonquin Young Readers.  It's a wonderful introduction to all five of the books and their authors, including an interview with me about the process of writing SOMEBODY UP THERE HATES YOU.  Take a look!   http://www.shelf-awareness.com/issue.html?issue=1994

Starred review for SUTHY and Upcoming Readings

Great news!  My forthcoming young adult novel, Somebody Up There Hates You (Algonquin Young Readers, September 2013), has just received a *starred* advance review from Kirkus Reviews
http://www.kirkusreviews.com/author/hollis-seamon/
Here's part of what the review has to say about the book:

Reading in Kinderhook

My son Tobias and I will be reading from and discussing our new books--his The Fair Grounds and my Corporeality--at my all-time favorite library, the Kinderhook Memorial Library, on Sunday, March 24 at 3 p.m.  There will be lots of good food and drink.  And books will be available from my all-time favorite independent book store, Blackwood and Brouwer Booksellers.  Everyone is welcome to join us!

Laughing on the Air

My son Tobias and I were interviewed last week by the fabulous Joe Donahue on the Roundtable program on WAMC Northeast Public Radio.  It was so much fun that I forgot to be nervous.  When I heard the interview, now available online at http://www.wamc.org/post/hollis-and-tobias-seamon, I realized that we spent a lot of time on-air laughing.  And that's exactly as it should be.
